AMERICORPS LOCAL LEADER AWARD
As a Public Allies NY Alum '03, Kody Emmanuel was an instrumental asset to the class. He has a profound passion for youth development and mentoring. He has since served as a Public Allies NY Program Director for over 5 years. With various local community and international interests, he has done several projects such as producing his own segment on the renowned radio show WBAI. He has been greatly inspired by the Public Allies NY model and started his own organization ServeAfrica. Serve Africa's signature program, the Casamance Youth Agricultural Project is a 10-month apprenticeship program that provides 30 young adults living in the city of Ziguincor, Senegal with agribusiness and sustainability training. Participants receive basic business management and coaching towards starting and managing their own farms. Aspects of leadership development and community service are also integrated throughout the program year. ServeAfrica believes that the Public Allies program model, when adopted to an African context, could serve as a creative tool for preparing Africa's next generation of leaders.
