During my 1st year with Public Allies, I started off with poor money management skills and a low credit score. The only experience I had attained in my spare time was reading a few books on the topic of finance and receiving my financial literacy certificate in high school. Now, fully 2 years through the program my financial knowledge and skills have grown. As an Ally I work at Grow Brooklyn, a community credit union providing free financial support services to the Bed-Stuy and Bushwick communities in Brooklyn. Through this work, I have been able to take free financial workshops like the ones we provide our community, and I’ve learned about persona budgeting and now have little to no debt. I love the work I do, and strive to teach others to do the same.
