My name is Babacar. I was born in African which has some of the poorest countries in the world. I lived there briefly during my childhood and it left a lasting impact on me. I always knew that helping others is what I wanted to do. I volunteered for everything at school, at home, even while with my friends. After high school I went to college for a while before I dropped out and joined the military. After the military I really didn’t know what I wanted to do until I started experiencing some of the difficulties that most people go through and I got stuck in the same place going in circles because I received no help. My first volunteer job after the military was with the Salvation Army where I met a lot of great people just like me who needed a little boost. After I moved back to New York, I started volunteering in soup kitchens and I wound up at the Bowery Mission where I started to see how bad the homeless problem was and how easy it was to end up there. And I decided I wanted to be part of the movement to eradicate that problem. I would like to see everyone presented with the same opportunities and resources. My goal is to start a nonprofit organization to benefit the less fortunate, especially families on the verge of losing their home.
